The first sentence of Minnesota's Compulsory Instruction Law and we believe the core of the entire law is as follows, "The parent of a child is primarily responsible for assuring that the child acquires knowledge and skills that are essential for effective citizenship."

2. What forms do I need to complete?

When you are certain that you want to homeschool your child. call the Office of Home School Instructional Services at 627-3085 to request reporting forms. These forms ensure that you list the critical elements of your instruction as mandated by state law. No information will be asked of you about your school other than the minimum amount required by the law including:

- -demographic information -plan for assessment of student achievement

--aids to nonpublic students form (not available after September 25th)

You must also make available documentation indicating that the subjects listed below are being taught. This documentation must include class schedules descriptions of methods used to assess student achievement.

--Social Studies including History, Geography, and Government

3. When and how do I notify my child's school to drop my child from their enrollment?

You may withdraw your child at any time by calling the attendance office at your school to alert them that you are in the process of completing the reporting foms from the Office of Home School Instructional Services. We ask that you complete and return these forms within 10 school days ( or sooner, if your child has missed enough days to warrant truancy proceedings).

4. Will a teacher come out to help me set up my home scbool with books and assignments?

The State Home School Packet lists the names of state recognized agencies that will assist home school parents in developing and maintaining their home school; however, there is a fee for this service.

The District will not assign a teacher, nor reserve District resourccs such as textbooks for your home school.

5. Is there any financial support available for my home school?

Homeschooled students who are registered prior to September 25th are eligible for 3 types of state aid including:

6. Who decides if my homeschooled child is to be promoted to the next grade?

You are the principal, teacher, counselor, and offirce person of your home school and as such, you, make placement decisions about students in your home school.

あなたはホームスクールの校長であり教師でありカウンセラーであり事務職員であるのです。よって、あなたが進級を判定することになります。

Grade placement for homeschooled students transitioning back into the Minneapolis Public Schools are managed in the same fashion as incoming transfer students from nonpublic schools. This transition is most efficient when you have assembled student information including:

--names of materials used for instruction and work samples of your child's academic achievement

--descriptions of methods used to assess student achievement including standardized test score information

--cumulative file information including a transcript

ホームスクールから公立学校への転入にあたっては、私立の学校から公立学校への転入と同じようなやり方で学年の配置が決められます。また、転入をスムースに行うためには、以下にあげる記録を準備してください。

In most cases your student will receive credit toward graduation for the work that has been completed in your home school. The public school grade point average; however,is generated only on course work completed in that public school.

多くの場合、ホームスクールの生徒の学校卒業はほとんど問題がありません。しかしながら、公立学校の成績評価点の平均レベルを達成するためには、公立学校で行われる教育課程と同じように学習を行っていく必要があります。

Please plan appropriately and in advance for spccialized academic programs with designated priority deadlines.

7. Can I enroll my homeschooled student in a shared time academic public school class?

　ホームスクールの生徒は、公立学校の授業を受けることができますか？また、そのための手続きはどのようにすればいいのですか？

Homeschooled students must receive the entirety of their core subject instruction at home (see explanation of core subject instruction listed in question 2). The District will make every reasonable effort to provide access for homeschooled students to elective classes such as Driver

Education* ,Music, and Foreign Language,if there is space in that assigned school program, and the student's presence does not disrupt that school environment.

*State law requires that students must be taught by a licensed, certified Driver Education teacher.

8. What if my homeschooled student has Special Education needs?

The District provides access to assessment and services for special education students in home schools. For further information on service options to meet the needs of your home schooled student, please call the Office of Nonpublic Special Education at 627-2933.

9. Can my homeschooled student participate in District athletic programs?

To participate in District athletics your home school must:

A. Join the Mimesota State High School League (MSHSL) in the sport in which they wish to participate.

B. Receive the approval of the Principal of the assigned high school for your address. Once done, this becomes a Cooperative Sponsorship, and must be approved by the State High School League and the Minueapolis Board of Education, or its representative.

C. Ensure that the student meets all other criteria to be eligible to participate, i.e. participation fee, credits, etc.

lO. Is my homeschooled student abie to participate in the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program?

ホームスクールの生徒は補習科に編入することができますか？

Students who are In the 11th or 12th grade may choose to participate in the Postsecondary Enrollment Options Program. To apply, students should contact the admissions office of the postsecondary institution of their choice. These institutions have the necessary forms. If a student qualifies for the postsecondary institution they want to artend,they do not need to enroll at a public high school in order to participate.

高校２学年か３学年の時に補習科への編入の選択ができます。出願にあたっては、本人が希望した補習科の事務所へ連絡して、承認を得ることが必要です。補習科の施設では、必要な提出書類を準備しています。生徒が補習科に入るための資格を得れば、

The parents will fiil out the parent and the high school section of the PSEO forrn provided by the institution. The postsecondary institution will forward it to the State of Minnesota. If you have any questions, call Barbara Zohn, Departrnent of Children, Families and Leaming, 296- 1261.

11. What are my reporting obligations if my child has not yet reached the age of 7, or has reached the age of 16?

Your child is not required to attend a school. If you choose to develop a home school you may do so on your own, or meet the reporting responsibilities of the Minneapolis Public Schools.

If you meet the reporting responsibilities of the Minneapolis Public Schools prior to September 25th, you are eligible to receive nonpublic school aids.

12. If I'm not sure that I really want to homeschool do I have for the education of my child?

Talk to your building Principal to discuss your concerns and the possibility of making changes that would allow for your child to continue in that program.

If this experience does not meet with your satisfaction:

--Call the Office of Alternative Schools at 627-2716 for information on District Alternative Schools and Charter Schools

--Review the Yellow Pages under the heading, Schools, and then the subsection, Schools-Academic-Secondary and Elementary, for programs that share your philosophy on education.
